February 18th 2017 was a memorable day for me. I hosted a conference for children event tagged The Love Conference at LASU Epe- Campus.
The idea was to take advantage of the Season of Love (Valentine) and get across to the kids the message of the Person behind love, the One who is love and who loves unconditionally.
And my testimony is: it was a success. The Lord made a lot out of the little efforts I made.
We had about a 130 children in attendance and we were able to do all that we had planned which without doubt blessed them.
The conference featured a hand full of sessions to enhance better grasping of our theme. And I’m going to give a little summary of what transpired that faithful Saturday.
- We had a worship session led by my friend and fellowship sister Joanna George. She has a beautiful natural hair and skin and I 100% appreciate her singing gift which she has totally dedicated for ministry. When I asked her to be my Guest Artiste for the event, she was thrilled and more than happy to not just sing for us, but even serve. And I must say, I loved the dimension she took the kids with her choice of praise/ worship songs and even in her Special Ministration (later on).
- We had the Prayer and Word session anchored by my humble self. We prayed a prayer of thanks to God for creating us to be who we are, for his sustenance in our lives and for the many more great things he’s been doing for our family. Then we dived into the word, we understood exactly what the Bible was saying when it said God is Love and He so loved us that he gave us His only begotten son Jesus Christ. Then we prayed some more (cause prayer is key).
- Having known that God loves us and He’ll continue to love us so, it is also important for the kids to know God desires that all of His children should love one another, Christ said the two most important commandments is to love God and to love our neighbours. The kids watched a short video about the Good Samaritan and were challenged by Aderinsola Sholabomi, my friend and a member of the planning team to extend God’s love to family members, friends, and even strangers just like the Samaritan did in the video.
- Kids were asked trivial questions about general knowledge with prizes to be won, anchored by Tayo, a friend of the vision and a very supportive brother.
- At Lunch Break, Donoughts and a chilled soft drink was served. After our little lunch break, we had a little time to dance and play dancing chairs! I love that game.
- SPECIAL NUMBER TIME: I love it when kids are not shy of expressing themselves to the glory of God. Some sang special choruses and others read out their memory verses. It was exciting!
- Art Workshop session: talking about showing love to other people? You will agree that nice words written on a simple heart cut out from cardboard is never a wrong idea! And many of the kids did not know how to cut out a perfect heart. We taught the kids how to cut a perfect heart and encouraged them to write something sweet on it and direct it to whoever they wish. I mean, it was awesome, some wrote to their moms, dads, best friends. I was sure it would bring smiles to whoever they gave it to.
- A gift token to all the kids.
We all had a nice time really!
So many people were with me on this one serving as craft facilators, ushers and servers, praying for us and running errands for us.
